Hi Neighbors!
My name is Yvette Pinnell-Prussing, proud Doraville resident since 2009 and candidate for Doraville City Council, District 2 Post 1.
I grew up in Woodstock, GA, with my parents and two older brothers. Having come from a family of mechanics, supporting small and family-run businesses has always been close to my heart and remains a driving value to this day.
Moreover, my 13 years as a Girl Scout taught me to be honest, fair, to use resources wisely, and to protect and improve the world around me.
My public service began in 2020 as a part of the Doraville Planning Commission, helping make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council regarding applications for items such as rezoning, text amendment, conditional use permits, and variances.
I was selected by the other commissioners to the position of Chair of the Commission the following year. I served as Chair for two years, and then Vice Chair for two years. This past Spring, I was re-appointed by the Commission to the Chair position, where I continue to serve.
During my time on the Commission, I have helped recommend many items to Doraville City Council, including the passing of special zoning at Assembly, variances for Veranda Senior Apartments at Assembly, and continuing to follow the Livable Community Code and the Comprehensive Plan.
Above all, I believe in:
- The strength of diversity
- Transparency between government officials and those they serve
- Fair and equitable housing
- A robust middle class
- Support for our senior community
- A strong library system
- Preserving our beautiful public spaces
- Support for art/theatre/music in the community
- Encouraging smart growth in the way the city evolves and utilizing the Comprehensive Plan
- Protecting our pets and trees
- Enhancing connectivity around the city with sidewalks and bike lanes.
As a member of the City Council, I promise to uphold these values and continue to learn from our amazing neighbors all across this city.
You can normally find me enjoying the amazing and diverse restaurants we are lucky to have on Buford Highway, walking my dogs in Oakcliff Estates, or flipping straight to the 90’s or Jimmy Buffett section in every karaoke menu.
I am grateful to my husband, a researcher of science-y things, to my extremely supportive friends and family, and to my two dogs, Violet and Scarlett, who steal my heart each and every day.
